Hi Moms and Dads,
I just wanted to send you a few notes to keep you informed about what the next couple of weeks will look like for us.
You should have all received a note about RAZ Kids, a reading program that students are familiar with and have used in class. I will send further instructions along on Monday about logging in, etc, but RAZ Kids is a program that would be useful and enjoyable for your kids to be using every day for 20-30 minutes. You do not need to provide your email address or any personal information to log in.
I sent a message on remind yesterday letting you know that there were bags at the school with some of your children's belongings that can be picked up. Included in the bags are pencil boxes, personal dictionaries, journals, Jump Math workbooks, and Phonics booklets. If there is anything else in your child's desk or coatroom that you would like me to include in their bags, please let me know. I am hesitant to send home all of their belongings at this time, as I am hopeful that we will have your children back in school before the end of the year.
You can email Kim Stanway (kim.stanway@sd78.bc.ca) to arrange a time for you to come in to pick up your child's bags. Please do not come in unannounced or with children, as it is very important to limit the number of people in the school at one time.
If you are unable to get into the school to pick up the bags please let me know and I can drop it off for you.
The Jump Math workbooks and Phonics workbooks are the programs we have been working through since September. I will not be assigning pages to work on from these books, but these are all important skills for your children to master and if you are able to set aside some time for them to work through them it would be beneficial. If your child gets through any of these workbooks and need more, please me know and I can provide more. That said, please do not stress about getting through these packets. We are all doing the best we can in this crazy time, and our mental health and that of our children is the most important. This is a hard time for children, and none of you need the added stress of tension surrounding school work.
I will be sharing a blog post every day with new activities for you to try with your child. These activities will be fun, interactive and will cover a variety of subjects and learning outcomes. I may share read-alouds, videos, or give ideas for poster projects, math games, science experiments, letter writing activities, etc.
If you look on the lefthand side of this blog there are educational links of numeracy, literacy and a variety of other activities that children love. I will continue to add resources to the list as they become available.
I am missing your children an incredible amount and will try to touch base with each one of our via email or telephone over the next couple of days. Please take care of yourselves!
Ms. Watson
